Focusing on the fundamental movements of brush calligraphy, this course is ideal for those just starting out. The instructor begins by assessing the student’s prior experience before introducing brush-holding techniques, wrist movement, stroke placement, and basic stroke sequences. The curriculum includes practice for common strokes—such as horizontal, vertical, left-slanting, right-slanting, and dot strokes—using demonstrations and step-by-step guidance to familiarize students with the writing process. The course also covers the provision of practice paper, explanations of common writing issues, and suggestions for post-class practice; the pace of instruction can be adjusted based on the student’s progress.
