Course On The Basics Of Chinese Character Structure

Focusing on the basic structure of Chinese characters, this course is designed for students who have some familiarity with strokes and wish to advance their calligraphy skills. The instructor explains the writing characteristics of single-component characters as well as those with left-right, top-bottom, and other common structural arrangements, using simple characters to demonstrate character layout, stroke placement, and the relationships between components. The class incorporates observation, tracing/copying, and character-by-character analysis to help students understand the structural composition of various Chinese characters. Lesson content—including specific character examples and suggestions for post-class practice—is tailored to the students’ age, literacy level, and prior experience.
